Georgia Tech: Student Has TB

March 10, 2003

Georgia Tech officials have reported that a male graduate student, 26, who tested positive for tuberculosis last week has been quarantined at his off-campus residence in Atlanta. The man came to the campus infirmary more than a week ago with symptoms and is being treated with antibiotics, according to university spokesperson Bob Harty. While TB is contagious, Harty emphasized that transmission requires prolonged exposure in close proximity. The campus health center is offering students TB tests and information.
