News Briefs Vietnam Launches Campaign Against TuberculosisMarch 12, 2003 Vietnam's National Tuberculosis Control Program has launched a campaign in Hanoi that promotes TB testing and treatment to mark World TB Day on March 24. The campaign, which began last week, includes information about symptoms and encourages TB patients to seek treatment, according to a Vietnam News report Monday. The campaign will also target politicians, policy makers and non-governmental organizations for support of Vietnam's TB control program. Under the program, about 105,000 patients will be provided with clinical examinations and chest X-rays. The country now has 145,000 TB patients, with 90,000 new cases reported each year. Last year, the Vietnamese government and NGO efforts helped approximately 90 percent of TB patients recover. Vietnam ranks 13th among 22 countries worldwide with high incidences of TB.
