News Briefs Virginia: Second Henrico TB Case ConfirmedMarch 18, 2003 The second case of active TB at Douglas Freeman High School in Henrico County, Va., was confirmed by the Henrico Health Department last Thursday. County health director Dr. Curtis W. Thorpe tried to reassure parents by saying that the second student has already received treatment, no longer tests positive and has returned to school. "The student was out of school the entire time," Thorpe said, highlighting precautions taken after the first positive case was diagnosed in January. Health care workers interviewed all students about symptoms that could indicate TB as a part of testing everyone at the school. About 25 students were then sent home until it could be determined that they did not have TB or that their cases were inactive. The second student was among those sent home. Thorpe said the only student yet to return to school with an all-clear is the first student diagnosed with active TB in January.
