Zambia and Malawi Call for Release of AIDS Funds

March 21, 2003

Zambia and Malawi complained Wednesday of delays in the release of funds from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Zambia's National AIDS Council Acting Director Rosemary Musonda and visiting Malawian health ministry official Richard Pandame, speaking at the end of discussions in Lusaka, said the delays are retarding their programs against AIDS. The Global Fund allocated to Zambia and Malawi $200 million and $119 million, respectively, for their HIV/AIDS programs.
