Activists Prepare for Annual AIDS Walk Houston

March 6, 2003

AIDS Foundation Houston will hold its annual AIDS Walk Houston on Sunday, March 9. The 3.5-mile event is designed to raise awareness around Houston and benefit AFH as well as 13 local HIV/AIDS service organizations. "The AIDS Walk Houston continues to be such an important event in Houston because it raises awareness throughout the community," said Kelly Adels Hess, vice president of development for AFH. AFH officials also noted that the face of AIDS has changed, with black women comprising almost 30 percent of newly reported HIV infections in Houston/Harris County. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on March 9, followed by the kick-off at 10 a.m. at Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston. For more information, telephone 713-623-6796, ext. 278.
