News Briefs TB Testing to Begin at Maryland High SchoolMay 23, 2003 Teachers and students at Meade High in Anne Arundel County, Md., will be tested for TB the first week of June. Officials said doctors found that a student had an active case of TB this year, and subsequent testing of 267 classmates and teachers found 34 testing positive for latent TB. "The majority of the student body and staff are at a low risk for infection," county health officer Francis B. Phillips said in a statement. "Treatment for latent TB is highly effective in preventing TB disease." The testing is expected to affect 1,800 students and school employees.
