Brazil's President Pledges to Share HIV Drugs Technology With Namibia

After earlier in the week announcing that his nation will build a $23 million factory to make HIV drugs in Mozambique, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio da Silva pledged on Friday to help Namibia produce the drugs as well. Brazil has a robust drug manufacturing industry: For years, it has made generic versions of HIV medicines no longer under patent. Silva, accompanied by about 100 Brazilian business executives and government ministers, arrived Thursday in Namibia, his fourth stop on a five-nation African tour. Silva and Namibian President Sam Nujoma signed a commitment to fight AIDS, poverty, hunger and underdevelopment.
