Two South Carolina AIDS Programs Receive Grants

November 25, 2003

Two South Carolina AIDS programs have received Pfizer Foundation grants as part of a three-year, $3 million initiative targeting underserved populations in the South, the foundation announced. Palmetto AIDS Life Support Services in Columbia will receive $49,900 to expand its Partners in Prevention program, which trains women to become community health educators, said Zenethia Brown, special events coordinator for PALLS. Brown said the new grant will help expand the program from public housing communities into rural areas. In addition, she said, it will address the increasing problem of HIV/AIDS in the Hispanic community. In Florence, Hope for the Pee Dee will receive $44,000 for new prevention, outreach and testing programs.
