South Carolina: 500 to Attend Conference on HIV

October 13, 2003

About 500 people are expected to gather in North Charleston for the 2003 South Carolina HIV/STD Conference this Wednesday through Friday at the Embassy Suites Hotel Charleston Convention Center. The conference will feature several keynote speakers and a large number of concurrent sessions on new developments in HIV and STD prevention, care and treatment; policy issues; resources for caregivers; and trends. Keynote speakers will include Dr. Kate Whetten, director of the health inequalities program at Duke University; Dr. Gail Wyatt of the University of California-Los Angeles; Washington, D.C., infectious disease specialist Dr. Luther Virgil; and Dawn Averitt of the Well Project in Asheville, N.C.
