U.S. News Milwaukee: Thousands Fall in Step for AIDSSeptember 29, 2003 In Milwaukee on Sunday, 3,452 walkers participated in the 14th annual AIDS Walk Wisconsin, raising $502,280 for Wisconsin organizations that provide AIDS prevention, education, health and social services and HIV drug trial research, said Kate Venne, spokesperson for the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. That figure is down from last year's $523,000, which Venne attributed to the economy, chilly weather and complacency. "Because people are living longer, people assume that there's a cure or a vaccine, and that is not the case," she noted. "We have a record number of people living with the disease, and it was up 16 percent in Wisconsin last year."
