Some 80,000 Ugandans Infected With TB Every Year

December 13, 2004

State-run Radio Uganda reported on Saturday that Uganda's 80,000 new TB cases per year rank the nation at 14th among the 22 nations with the world's highest incidence of the disease. The disease also causes a burden due to the six to eight months of time lost from work during treatment, according to President Yoweri Museveni's remarks, which were read by Kirunda Kivejinja, minister in charge of the presidency. With the help of development partners, Uganda is making progress in achieving its goal of diagnosing 70 percent of TB infections and curing 85 percent by 2005, Museveni was quoted as saying.
