Algerian AIDS Cases on the RiseJuly 22, 2004 During a recent Algiers seminar on AIDS, physicians specializing in
infectious diseases said Algeria experienced 40 new AIDS cases per year.
Most of the 1,591 people diagnosed with HIV live in the capital. Half of the
nation's 630 people with AIDS have died since the nation's first case in
1985. Transmission was most commonly through the sex trade, multiple sex
partners and medical mistakes, said the specialists.
