International News Fashion Giant H&M Gives US$1.5 Million to UNICEFJuly 8, 2004 Swedish-based global fashion company Hennes & Mauritz has donated $1.5 million to UNICEF to fund an AIDS prevention program in Cambodia and support girls' education programs worldwide. The money, to be given out over a three-year period, will help thousands of Cambodian adolescents receive HIV/AIDS awareness training, set up a toll-free counseling and information hotline, create 75 youth clubs, and provide HIV/AIDS prevention training to 2,500 teachers, UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy said Tuesday. "The presence of H&M on four continents makes us sensitive to cultural differences. For us it means respect for human rights and the responsibility for the effects of our business on the local environment," said H&M CEO Rolf Eriksen.
