International News Most of HIV/AIDS Patients in Vietnam Refused TreatmentJune 1, 2004 Most HIV/AIDS patients in Vietnam seeking treatment are refused by health care workers, Hanoi's Labor newspaper reported, citing studies by five international nongovernmental groups. The local HIV patients received little care to overcome the shock of their diagnosis, the studies also found. Many HIV patients are also stigmatized, so much so that they tend to leave their jobs. Local media blamed the lack of health care facilities and staff for the situation. Hospitals involved in HIV/AIDS treatment are continuously short of funding. Vietnam is on the list of countries that former President Bill Clinton's foundation will assist in buying cheap AIDS drugs.
