Prevention/Epidemiology South Africa: Knowledge Is Power, Says Health DepartmentJune 4, 2004 As part of South Africa's AIDS action plan, the government will distribute about 11 million copies of a 49-page booklet containing detailed information about how HIV is transmitted and can be prevented, said plan spokesperson Thami Skenjana. The booklet, which she said is printed in all official languages, also explains how people can find out their serostatus and what antiretroviral treatment is. Prevention remains the foundation of the government's HIV/AIDS communication, said Skenjana, because most South Africans are not HIV-infected. The booklet will be distributed door-to-door nationwide.
