Swedish Sex Ed Group to Patrol Cities Handing out Condoms, Birth Control Advice

May 28, 2004

The Swedish Organization for Sexual Education, or RFSU, announced Thursday it plans to deliver condoms by car in a bid to stem rising STD rates among young Swedes. Using the name Cho-San Express, RFSU will have four cars stocked with condoms patrol Stockholm, along with a pair of vehicles in Goteborg and Malmoe, Sweden's second- and third-largest cities. People lacking contraception can call the express and have a 10-pack of condoms delivered for 50 kronor (US$6.66) -- less than the cost at state-owned pharmacies, which charge 52 kronor (US$6.93) for a 10-pack. "It's our hope that the contraceptive will be perceived as a fun sex accessory and not just as a way to protect against infectious, sexually transmitted diseases," said RFSU spokesperson Carl Osvald.
