November 16, 2004
The Nigerian government is developing strategies aimed at reducing the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among young people in the country, said Abraham Abebe, director of the public health division of the Ministry of Health. A National Youth Agenda, derived from the National Youth Policy, will pursue a mission to expand and coordinate multi-sector responses for youths to reduce poverty, which can lead to youths having illicit sex, said Abebe. Regular youth workshops on HIV/AIDS, school enlightenment programs, empowerment and capacity building for youths will also be a part of the NYA program, she said.Adapted from:
