Four Former Top Executives Are Indicted for Kickbacks

April 15, 2005

The U.S. Attorney in Boston has announced criminal conspiracy charges against four former executives of the drug company Serono Inc. A grand jury indicted the four -- John Bruens, 48, San Diego; Mary Stewart, 44, North Andover, Mass.; Melissa Vaughn, 43, Louisville, Colo.; and Marc Sirockman, 41, Flemington, N.J. -- for allegedly offering kickbacks to doctors in exchange for writing prescriptions for the AIDS wasting drug Serostim, which is marketed by Serono's Swiss parent company Ares-Serono SA.
