International News Iran Records Over 10,000 HIV/AIDS CasesApril 18, 2005 According to media reports in Iran today, the health ministry has documented 10,265 HIV infections and an additional 390 cases of AIDS. Of the HIV infections, 9,751 cases are males and 514 are females. Intravenous drug use is the main route of transmission, followed by sexual contact. From the first AIDS diagnosis 18 years ago through February 2005, the ministry logged 1,041 deaths from AIDS; there was no indication whether that number has since risen.
