Kansas: AIDS Walk Raises More Than $250,000April 19, 2005 Organizers of Saturday's 2005 AIDS Walk in Theis Park said Kansas City's largest annual AIDS fundraiser was a success, bringing in more than $250,000 for treatment and research. Last month, community AIDS organizations learned of nearly half a million dollars in federal cuts and are now bracing themselves for this summer, when Medicaid cuts are to be finalized. Talk of outreach among the walk's 4,000 attendees was urgent and heated. Mike Enos, third-year chairperson of the walk, said money is spread thin for AIDS organizations in a place like Kansas City, and that requires reaching out to new people in the community. "This is what we have to do," said Enos.
