Zanzibar Begins Distributing Free Antiretroviral Drugs to HIV-Infected

August 1, 2005

Health authorities recently began providing free antiretroviral treatment to some of the 661 HIV-infected in Zanzibar, a semiautonomous Indian Ocean archipelago off Tanzania. The brand-name drugs were provided by international donors, including former US President Bill Clinton's foundation. New York-based Columbia University helped set up the treatment program.
