August 8, 2005
TV, film and stage actor Leslie Jordan will be celebrity spokesperson at this year's AIDS Run & Walk Chicago on Saturday, Sept. 17. Jordan is known for his work on shows such as "Boston Legal," "Boston Public," "Star Trek: Voyager" and his recurring role as Beverly Leslie on "Will & Grace," as well as for his one-man stage comedy, "Like a Dog on Linoleum."
The run and walk starts at 10 a.m. at Columbus and Balbo in Grant Park. The event benefits the grant-making program of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC).
In addition to a 5K run and 5K walk, AIDS Run & Walk Chicago will feature a Health Expo, sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health, where HIV/AIDS service agencies will have booths. Pre-event, course route and post-event musical entertainment is also scheduled.
Since 1988, AFC -- the largest source of HIV/AIDS philanthropic support in the Midwest -- has given more than $15 million to area HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy groups.
Registration fee for the run and walk is $20 in advance, $25 on-site. For registration materials and information, visit www.aidschicago.org, telephone 312-922-2322, or pick up registration materials at Fleet Feet stores in Chicago and Elmhurst.
