Prevention/Epidemiology Giant Condom Overlooks Buenos Aires on AIDS DayDecember 2, 2005 The Obelisk of Buenos Aires, the city's most famous landmark, was covered in a giant pink condom Thursday in recognition of World AIDS Day. City officials used cranes to cover the 220-foot monument with the cloth condom. "It seemed we could have the biggest impact by putting a condom on the most important symbol of the city," said Sandra Castillo, an organizer of the effort. Some tourists expressed surprise. "You'd never see something like this in Ecuador," said Vilma Torres, an Ecuadorean visiting the city. Reuters 12.01.2005 This article was provided by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
