The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Delaware a grant of $1.3 million to provide housing for state residents with HIV/AIDS. The grant -- part of more than $18 million in AIDS housing funding HUD announced on World AIDS Day -- will provide transitional housing and support for Kent and Sussex county families at risk of homelessness until they receive permanent placement. Kathy McKay, president and CEO of Connections Community Support Programs, said the agency sought the grant because state residents with HIV/AIDS typically spend two or more years waiting for permanent federally subsidized housing. CCSP is seeking one- and two-bedroom apartments in Dover renting for $500 to $800 to serve as temporary homes for families affected by HIV/AIDS while they await permanent housing.
