International News Nigeria to Dramatically Increase Drugs Coverage for HIV/AIDS PatientsFebruary 24, 2005 Nigeria hopes to increase the number of HIV patients on its subsidized antiretroviral program from 14,000 to 100,000 by appealing for greater financial support through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, Health Minister Eyitayo Lambo said Wednesday. Nigeria's target is to treat 350,000 people with HIV by 2007, he added. An estimated 3.5 million to 5 million Nigerians have HIV. Nigeria's program covers 70 percent of the cost of generic AIDS medicines, said Lambo.
