U.S. Government Donates Blood Testing Equipment to Turkmenistan

On Tuesday, the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat announced that the United States is donating blood-testing equipment to Turkmenistan to fight the spread of HIV and other blood-borne diseases in Central Asia. The six sets of lab equipment, valued at $120,000, were given to the Turkmen Health Ministry under a CDC program and will be distributed to blood banks across the nation. Turkmenistan does not release information on how many of its citizens are infected with HIV.
