Vietnam Reports Over 1,300 HIV Infections in January

January 27, 2005

On Wednesday, Vietnam's General Statistics Office reported the country has registered more than 1,300 HIV patients so far this year, raising the national total to 90,600. Sixty-two percent of patients are ages 20-29. In an effort to cut prevalence among its population of 82 million to below 0.3 percent by 2010 and maintain it unchanged after 2020, Vietnam has concentrated on raising public awareness, supervising HIV patients, improving treatment and care for infected persons, and increasing spending on anti-AIDS activities.
