Louisiana: Grant AwardedJanuary 28, 2005 Thanks to a $35,000 grant from Altria Group, Inc., New Orleans' NO/AIDS Task Force will expand its food pantry program, Food for Friends, to provide an additional 12,600 meals to some 63 clients throughout the metro area. Food for Friends provides packages of food and personal care items as well as nutritious home-delivered meals to persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Adapted from:NATF Executive Director Noel Twilbeck said the grant was made through Altria's Positive Helpings Initiative, a partnership with the Association of Nutrition Service Agencies. Seventy-nine organizations, both in the United States and abroad, will receive at least $1.4 million in grants from Altria to provide meals to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS through food pantries, congregate feeding programs and home-delivered meals. Altria Group Inc. is the parent company of Kraft Foods, Philip Morris International and Philip Morris USA. Food for Friends serves 8,500 bags of groceries to about 425 clients and provides 34,700 home-delivered meals to about 120 people.
