Russia to Allocate $20 Million to Global Fund Against AIDS
July 12, 2005 The Russian government recently approved the Finance Ministry's proposal to allocate an extra $20 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin told a government meeting that the allocation was very important for Russia, as the diseases pose a major threat to the country. The contributed funds allow Russia to take $310 million from the fund to implement disease-fighting programs. Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov said that federal budget funds were enough to treat only 1,000 AIDS patients a year.
