Rhode Island: Grant Aids Expansion of Agape Center

July 13, 2005

A $250,000 federal grant has enabled the Agape Center, an HIV/AIDS counseling and support center for Woonsocket area residents, to expand its services. The center has improved its exercise area and personal trainer services and shored up its computer lab and meal programs. Now a full-service drop-in resource center with caseworkers, trained counselors and a nutritionist on site, Agape serves 92 families -- many economically disadvantaged. At a recent open house, Agape workers said they would dedicate the exercise area to Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.), who secured the federal money for the project.
