Mandela Spreads AIDS Message to the Arctic

June 7, 2005

Former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela plans to take his "46664" campaign against HIV/AIDS to the Arctic Circle this Saturday with a concert in Tromsoe, northern Norway. "It will be the first concert on such a scale to take place in the Nordic region and has been deliberately sited to provide a platform ... to deliver a message to the youth of the northern hemisphere that the HIV/AIDS threat now exists on their doorstep," said concert organizers. International stars such as Annie Lennox, Robert Plant, and Peter Gabriel are slated to perform. Mandela's campaign is named for the prison number he was assigned during 27 years in prison under apartheid.
