European Union Backs Campaign to Free Bulgarian Nurses Condemned to Death in Libya

Today in Sofia, the European Union enlargement commissioner endorsed attempts to secure the freedom of five Bulgarians and a Palestinian sentenced to death in Libya for allegedly infecting hundreds of children with HIV. "You have our compassion and solidarity and we hope we will reach a satisfactory solution," Olli Rehn told Bulgaria's Parliament. The six professionals, who have been imprisoned for five years, maintain their innocence and claim poor hygiene at the Benghazi hospital was to blame for the infections.Adapted from:
