Ninety-Five Percent of Pregnant Women Opt In to HIV Screening in Singapore

About 95 percent of pregnant women support screening for HIV, Channel NewsAsia reported on Saturday. In one local women's and children's hospital, antenatal screening started in 1995 and has prevented 59 babies from infection, the report stated. The Health Ministry is preparing to make antenatal screening compulsory for all pregnant women and introduce premarital HIV tests in order to control the disease. Currently, pregnant women can opt out of HIV screening.
