France: Sharon Stone Leads Celebrities in Raising $3 Million for AIDS

May 23, 2005

Thursday at the Cannes film festival, Sharon Stone and Liza Minnelli headlined a celebrity charity bash that raised $3 million for the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Roman Polanski, Ivana Trump, Mickey Rourke, Bencio del Toro, and Penelope Cruz attended the exclusive $10,000-per-plate function. Much of the money raised came from an auction of unusual lots, like Minnelli singing "New York, New York" for $115,000, tennis lessons with Monica Seles for $100,000, and the dress Cruz was wearing for $100,000.
