Austria: Versace, Minnelli Headline Life Ball
May 23, 2005 At Saturday's 13th annual Life Ball in Vienna, Liza Minnelli, Elton John, Donatella Versace, and Heidi Klum were among the revelers gathered to raise AIDS awareness. Organizers hope the event will raise as much as $1.3 million. To kick off the festivities, Versace organized a fashion show featuring her brother Gianni's designs for the first time since his 1997 murder. "I can't think of a more appropriate place for these to be shown than the Life Ball," said Versace. Minnelli said the main purpose of the ball was to draw attention to the fight against HIV/AIDS. "We have to make noise," said Minnelli. "When it gets quiet, it gets ignored."
