International News Lesotho to Offer Free HIV TestsNovember 29, 2005 In what is believed to be the first such effort in the world, health workers will offer free HIV tests to every person in tiny, mountainous Lesotho. The government has plans to add 7,500 workers to take test kits door to door. Local leaders will be consulted on the best ways to encourage testing. It is estimated that 30 percent of adults in the nation of 1.8 million people are HIV-infected, but very few have been diagnosed. Lesotho is entirely surrounded by South Africa.
