California: Thousands in San Diego Raise $500,000 for AIDS
October 5, 2005 In its 16th year, AIDS Walk San Diego drew approximately 10,500 participants Sunday to raise money for more than 30 HIV/AIDS organizations in the county. More than 22,000 San Diego residents have HIV/AIDS and depend on social service agencies to help with housing, medicine and food. According to Aaron Heier, an event official, revenue from the walk has become a crucial source of funding since local providers have lost more than $1.6 million in state and federal funding cuts in recent years.
