District of Columbia: Thousands Expected for AIDS Walk

September 30, 2005

On Saturday, Oct. 1, the 19th Annual AIDS Walk Washington is scheduled to step off from Freedom Plaza at Pennsylvania Avenue between 13th and 14th streets. The 5-kilometer walk is a key fundraiser for the region's largest AIDS service organization, the Whitman-Walker Clinic, which provides testing, medical and counseling services. Earlier this week, WWC spokesperson Kim Mills said more than 2,700 walkers have registered, and contributions were at about $200,000. At last year's walk, some 750 of the 5,100 walkers registered on the day of the event, which raised about $300,000.
