Septenber 6, 2005

By the end of 2005, an estimated 58,000 Vietnamese will have become infected with HIV after having sex with an HIV-positive prostitute, up from 25,000 in late 2000, Vietnam's Health Ministry said today. The number of infected sex buyers tends to cluster most in big cities and tourism centers like Hanoi, southern Ho Chi Minh City, northern Hai Phong city and northern Quang Ninh province, said the ministry, which predicted that Vietnam will have an estimated 218,000-308,000 people living with HIV by late this year.
