Rhode Island: AIDS Prevention Online

September 7, 2005

Thanks to funding from the KR Hofmann Foundation, AIDS Project Rhode Island will become the state's first agency to launch a coordinated, Web-based HIV/STD prevention campaign. The Sexperts program, to be launched in local Internet chat rooms, will initially target gay men and expand to other groups at higher risk for HIV. The trained, volunteer peer educators will offer information and referrals to people in chat rooms. The staff will identify themselves as HIV educators in their online profiles and wait for people to ask questions. Sexperts is based on successful Internet outreach programs established in Boston, San Francisco, New York and New Orleans. For more information, visit www.aidsprojectri.org.
