U.S. News California: San Mateo County to Offer Free STD ScreeningsApril 11, 2006 The San Mateo County Health Department's STD Control Program will offer free STD screenings Wednesday in recognition of National Sexually Transmitted Disease Awareness Month. The screenings will be take place from 1-4 p.m. at the San Mateo Medical Center's Edison Clinic at 222 W. 39th Ave. in San Mateo. In a statement, Assistant Health Officer Dorothy Vura-Weis said, "According to our 2004 report, 80 percent of the women with chlamydia were between 15 and 30 years of age. A simple urine test can save a woman from serious infection, pregnancy problems and chronic pain."
