Geron Data Shows Body Boost Against HIV

February 8, 2006

On Friday, Geron Corp. announced that research on two of its compounds showed they helped the body's own immune cells in fighting the production of viruses in HIV-infected cells. The compounds, small molecule telomerase activators named TAT0001 and TAT0002, enhanced the ability of CD8+ T-cells to kill other HIV-infected immune cells, the research demonstrated. During the progression of HIV, CD8+ cells age faster than normal and lose their ability to kill off immune cells that have been infected with HIV.
