As of Jan. 1, 1,869 HIV-positive children were registered in Russia, ITAR-TASS reported Thursday, quoting an official in the Federal Service for the Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare. The source, who was not identified, emphasized: "343,000 AIDS cases were registered in Russia in the beginning of January 2006, and 80 percent of AIDS-infected people aged from 15 to 30." Planned government prevention measures include testing 20 million people for the virus by the end of 2006 and treating 15,000 people.
