Nigeria, Clinton Foundation Sign Deal to Provide Cheap AIDS Drugs

On Monday in Abuja, Nigeria and the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation signed a deal to facilitate the availability of AIDS drugs in the nation. Under the memorandum of understanding, Nigeria will be included in the Clinton Foundation's procurement consortium and will benefit from agreements negotiated with suppliers to cut the price of the drugs. The foundation will "assist Nigeria in expanding access to pediatric HIV/AIDS care and treatment by facilitating access to pediatric antiretroviral drugs and providing technical assistance" and will also help Nigeria mobilize resources from other donors. Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and former U.S. President Bill Clinton witnessed the signing.
