U.S. News Nebraska: State Says AIDS List in Omaha Area Is a HoaxJuly 31, 2006 The Nebraska Health and Human Services System has reported that a document circulating in the Omaha area listing people infected with HIV is a hoax. The list, which purports to identify 87 persons with HIV, includes some full names, some partial names and some nicknames. Its origin is not known; some copies have been sold for $3-$5, HHS said. HHS said it does not know if the names are those of real people; some people, however, have called the department to say they have found their names on the list. HHS said safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized people from accessing confidential information on HIV/AIDS patients.
