International News Laura Bush Asks for More Understanding About AIDS VirusJune 6, 2006 In a short speech to the UN General Assembly 2006 High Level Meeting on AIDS on Friday, U.S. first lady Laura Bush called for more AIDS education and said improved literacy worldwide would help achieve this goal. "More people need to know how AIDS is transmitted and every country has an obligation to educate its citizens," said Bush. "This is why every country must also improve literacy, especially for women and girls, so they can learn to make wise choices that will keep them healthy and safe," she said. Bush also announced the United States will seek the creation of an International HIV Testing Day.
