International News Mexico: Tijuana HIV Rates "Alarming" -- StudyMarch 1, 2006 As many as one in 125 people ages 15-49 in Tijuana, Mexico, could have HIV, according to new study by University of California-San Diego researchers. That may be three times Mexico's national average, and higher than previously estimated. "Intervention and prevention on both sides of the border are urgently needed, because of the high mobility between Tijuana and San Diego County," said the study authors. They noted that populations who are at high risk for infection are male homosexuals, injection drug users, sex workers and pregnant women. The study will be published in the forthcoming March 1 issue of the Journal of Urban Health.
