Hepatitis C Drug Actilon Shows Promise

March 28, 2006

On March 21, the biotech firm Coley Pharmaceutical Group Inc. said early data from a clinical trial of its drug Actilon showed promise in hepatitis C patients who had relapsed after previous treatments. Twelve of 14 patients (86 percent) taking Actilon with pegylated interferon and ribavirin showed early viral response; this was achieved by only eight of 15 patients (57 percent) taking pegylated interferon and ribarivin alone. The Actilon group also showed greater reduction in the number of viral copies than the control group. The trial involved a total of 74 hepatitis C patients.
