China: UNDP, Company Launch Yao Ming, Magic Johnson TV Ad to Fight Discrimination Against HIV/AIDS Patients
March 3, 2006
The UN Development Program and Beijing-based Epin Media will collaborate to promote a TV commercial that aims to increase AIDS awareness and discourage discrimination against patients. The 30-second public service announcement, which features NBA star Yao Ming and Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, will be shown on express trains and in major railway stations nationwide. "I have been living with HIV since 1991," Johnson says in the ad. Yao says, in Mandarin, "Hugging, shaking hands or eating together will not transmit HIV. Don't be afraid. Don't discriminate. Please show you care for people living with HIV/AIDS and learn more about HIV/AIDS prevention." The ad has already been widely shown in Beijing.
