Rhode Island: Conference Focuses on AIDS, Drug Trends

March 6, 2006

The "Creating Bridges to Care" conference, coming March 22 in Providence, will focus on HIV, hepatitis and substance abuse care. The program will include information about HIV trends, HIV-hepatitis C co-infection and substance abuse, including crystal methamphetamine, said Christopher Butler, executive director of AIDS Project Rhode Island. Governmental agencies and nonprofits need to better coordinate to work with those who are HIV/HCV co-infected or are dealing with substance abuse, Butler said. The 8 a.m.-4 p.m. conference, sponsored by APRI, AIDS Action Boston and the Alcohol Treatment Association, will be held at the Providence Marriot. For more information, visit www.aidsprojectri.org or telephone Christine Jones at 617-450-1241.
